Trainer Les Bridge has strengthened a relationship with Japanese owner Shigeru Morinaka that had lapsed 20 years ago with promising filly Shigeru Sendan, a Listed winner at Scone.
Bridge said he had trained for Morinaka more than 20 years ago.
"I trained a lot of mid-week winners for him but nothing of any note," Bridge said.
"I did not hear anything from him for 20 years then one day he rang me and said they were going to buy two horses at the Melbourne sale.
"They picked them out with a girl from Inglis who helped them then got me to inspect them.
"We bought this one and another by Northern Meteor and it goes all right too.
With Tim Clark riding hard, Shigeru Sendan dug deep to win Saturday's Woodlands Stakes (1100m) for two year old fillies in race record time.
Clark was enthusiastic about the win and the future of the filly.
"There is a lot to like about her," Clark said.
"She was out on her feet late but dug deep and found a way to win."
Bridge said the filly would now be spelled with a view to the future.
"I like this filly, I think she has a big future but she has done the job we asked of her so she can go to the paddock now," he said.
"I was confident she could win today and decided to aim her at this race after she won her maiden at Canterbury.
"Now I have won a race of significance for Mr Morinaka.
"He would have been watching the race in Japan."
Clark settled Shigeru Sendan behind the hot pace set by the Queensland trained I'm Chillin.
At the 200 metres Shigeru Sendan went to the lead then held off Uratta Belle to win by three-quarters of a length with More For Me a further 2-1/2 lengths third.
