Brett Cavanough doesn't make the trip from Albury to Sydney unless he believes he will be competitive and comes to Rosehill double-handed on Saturday.
The trainer will test Loved Up over 1350 metres in the 2YO Plate while Scatcat runs in a 1200m three-year-old race on a quick back-up from a Melbourne campaign.
He thought highly enough of the two fillies to bring them to Randwick for stakes races on April 12 but neither showed her best on the heavy track.
Scatcat then finished third at Sandown on April 26 in a race won by subsequent Group Three placegetter Girl Guide before finishing sixth then fourth in two straight races at Flemington, most recently on Saturday.
"I wouldn't bring them if I didn't think they could measure up," Cavanough said.
"I think Scatcat has above average ability and the jockey got off last time and thought she might be better around a turn.
"She looks like a colt and eats like a colt so she should handle the quick back-up.
"She is bloody tough and has held together well."
Scatcat has won five of her 15 starts and finished fifth in the Listed P J Bell (1200m) at Randwick while Loved Up, the winner of two of her four starts, was sixth in the Kindergarten Stakes.
"I'm not sure about the 1350 metres with Loved Up but I've got to stretch her out at some time," Cavanough said.
"Jake Duffy will ride both horses. We have a really good association with a 50 per place strike rate and a 29 per cent win rate.
"He knows both fillies well."
Previously indentured to Peter Moody, Duffy graduated to senior ranks earlier this year and divides his time between NSW and Victoria.
Sniper Fire, Miss Granger and Carver were additional entries for the two-year-old race when nominations were extended to Tuesday.
