Queensland Oaks favourite Arabian Gold has a new pair of shoes and connections have their fingers crossed after she threw a scare into the camp by twisting a front plate.
The filly pulled the shoe half off before trackwork on Tuesday morning but trainer David Vandyke was nearby and quick off the mark to prevent a serious incident.
"She had pulled it half off and a couple of nails were in a compromising position," Vandyke said.
"I was there and we managed to get the shoe off before she did any damage.
"We bandaged her foot and she galloped with no problems.
"She has new shoes on in front and we are optimistic. The farrier is confident there has been no damage.
"I think we have got out of jail."
Arabian Gold has eased slightly in markets for Saturday's 2400m Classic at Eagle Farm with TAB moving her out to $2 to $1.90.
Tinto, second to Arabian Gold at Doomben, is the $5.50 second elect with Khutulun, an unlucky second to Derby contender Sonntag at Caulfield last Saturday week, at $6.50,
The final field will be declared on Wednesday with a maximum 18 to start and five emergencies to be named if necessary.
Arabian Gold has been the dominant favourite for the Oaks since her win in the traditional lead-up, the Doomben Roses.
Victoria Derby winning trainer Robbie Laing is among those anxiously waiting to find out if he has a runner in his bid for a second Classic this season.
The Laing-trained Falamonte is in 25th spot in the ballot order and Savvy Kingstonette 27th.
Laing is counting on some non-acceptances with Falamonte booked to fly to Queensland on Tuesday night.
If Savvy Kingstonette looks like gaining a start, Laing will try to get her to Brisbane on Thursday night.
