Filly shows her true colours at Doomben

The Meagher training partnership has enjoyed a nostalgic victory at Doomben with Widow's Walk posting a win in the same colours once sported by one of their best horses.

Team Meagher - made up of Melbourne Cup-winning trainer John Meagher and his sons Chris and Dan - has been gradually building over the past 12 months and the victory by Widow's Walk in the Powerade Maiden (1110m) on Wednesday was their 10th city winner for the season.

Widow's Walk races in the same colours as Gegabar who was a star jumper for John Meagher when he trained in his own right in Melbourne during the 1990s.

Gegabar was also no slouch on the flat and ran third in a Werribee Cup.

"Dad always said Gegabar was the best jumper we ever had. He won 15 races and was always competitive in the big steeplechases," Chris Meagher said.

Widow's Walk, a nicely bred filly by Not A Single Doubt, will now be tried over longer trips.

Meanwhile, jockey Chris Munce put a foot injury behind him to land a plunge on unraced gelding Underneaththeradar ($13 into $4.80) in the Hidden Dragon @ Lyndhurst Maiden (1110m).

Trainer Liam Birchley bought the now three-year-old as a yearling and has taken his time with him.

Munce, who injured his left foot in a barrier mishap on Saturday, bounced Underneaththeradar to the lead from his outside alley and the horse was never headed.

Trainer Pat Duff was amazed at the starting price of his winner Balkan Bambino ($15) in the Novotel Brisbane Airport Plate (1110m) for two-year-olds.

"In all three starts he had no luck. Two runs ago he nearly got put over the fence at the Gold Coast and at his next start at Toowoomba he missed the start two lengths but ran third," Duff said.
