Apprentice Geoff Goold showed he had put his weight demons behind him with a faultless winning ride on Coruba Queen at Doomben on Wednesday.
The Len Treloar-trained Coruba Queen ($7) took a split between the leaders in the straight to win the Hidden Dragon @ Lyndhurst Hcp (1350m).
Goold, a mature aged apprentice at 31, has enjoyed a successful season and Wednesday's win was his 20th metropolitan victory this term.
However, his momentum was halted in April when he received consecutive suspensions which effectively put him out of the saddle for a month.
"My weight got away from me and when I came back I tried to get it off too quickly," Goold said.
"At least I learned a lesson and now I am a lot more aware of what is needed to manage weight loss."
Treloar has also had a great season and the victory by Coruba Queen was his 18th metropolitan success, taking him to seventh on the Brisbane trainers' premiership.
The Caloundra horseman will now give the filly a chance in stakes company.
"I think I will run Coruba Queen in the Sunshine Coast Guineas on Saturday week," Treloar said.
"You only get one shot at a Guineas and she has won three on the trot now."
Meanwhile, trainer Matt Dunn continued his good association with owner Anthony Chow when Harmonized Feeling ($1.70) won the Racing Retro Hcp (1200m).
"I prepare a mixture of horses for him. Some are pre-trained to go to Hong Kong but others like Harmonized Feeling race here. I think Harmonized Feeling might be handy," Dunn said.
