Work will begin shortly on resurfacing the tunnel at Randwick but it is a little too late for Sam Clipperton.
The leading apprentice landed heavily against the rail when his mount Everage acted up and flipped over on her way to the track on Saturday.
Presiding chief steward Greg Rudolph said the Australian Turf Club had been previously notified of the potential for an accident and the need for a rubberised surface and padding on the rail.
"We have been at the club for some time," Rudolph said.
"We understand the work is to be undertaken soon to resurface the tunnel.
"The rail is an issue as well."
Clipperton, who missed just one scheduled ride, said the incident happened quickly and his right leg copped the brunt.
"She showed no signs and then just went up and over," he said.
"I got caught between her and the fence and my right side got most of it."
Trainer Craig Carmody said Everage, who Gerry Harvey bought at the recent National Broodmare Sale, had a history of flighty behaviour.
"She has been in and out of season," he said.
"I'm hoping she can go out to the track first in future. She can be a bit hard to to manage."
On initial examination, the filly suffered superficial injuries but Carmody will have her thoroughly vetted.
