Mighty midget Little Brown Horse earned herself a crack at open company with a last-stride win at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.
Little Brown Horse is one of the smallest horses racing in Queensland at 15.2 hands but few would have a bigger heart.
Apprentice Geoff Goold got the best out of Little Brown Horse ($5) who beat Avaladyluck ($4 fav) by a half head in the XXXX Hcp (1300m).
Trainer Kelly Doughty had considered running Little Brown Horse in the Listed Glasshouse Mountain Sprint on Saturday if the track had been wet.
"There are few horses who try as hard as she does and she would have been a chance against them on the limit on a wet track," Doughty said.
"But she would have struggled in the dry so we opted for the easier company."
The Gold Coast trainer said Little Brown Horse responded well to apprentices because of the weight relief.
"She has won 11 races now and seven of them have been for claiming apprentices. We have to try to get the weight off her all the time," Doughty said.
Doughty praised Goold who has been in great form in the past fortnight.
"We discovered him early on and I don't think he has ever ridden a bad race for us," she said.
Meanwhile, stakes-winning sprinter Agitate ($2.25 fav) was beaten but not disgraced when second to You Did What ($17) in the Summerveld Racing Stables Hcp (1000m).
You Did What gave trainer John Zielke his first metropolitan winner since moving his stables to the Sunshine Coast.
