Jessy Belle was not considered Luke Oliver's best chance of a victory at Caulfield on Saturday but the trainer was more than happy to see the consistent filly notch another city win.
Oliver had two runners at the meeting with two-year-old Zeletto having to settle for second in the opening race as the $3 favourite.
Jessy Belle stepped out a few races later and reinforced Oliver's belief that the rising four-year-old is destined for black type with victory in the Sportingbet.com.au Handicap (1400m).
"A first and a second is alright, but certainly two wins would have been better," Oliver said.
Jessy Belle ($8.50) settled one out and one back before racing to the front in the straight and going on to score by 1-1/4 lengths for her fourth win from 11 starts.
"She's just a good horse," Oliver said.
"She has beaten the boys three times as a three-year-old in town. She never runs a bad race, she's a real trier and deserved her win today."
Oliver is set to give Jessy Belle her chance in stakes company in the spring.
"She's definitely a black-type filly in the spring or whatever," he said.
"She's definitely going to make the grade from a three-year-old to an older horse."
Running Bull was second past the post but was relegated to fourth after a protest from jockey Joe Bowditch who rode Baligari ($6) who had finished a luckless fourth.
Baligari was promoted to third with Charles In Charge ($15) going from third to second.
Stewards agreed Baligari suffered interference early in the straight, saying the interference cost the horse more than narrow margin he conceded to Running Bull.
