As Sam Clipperton nears the end of his apprenticeship, the 20-year-old can count on support from a global operation in his transition to the senior ranks.
Clipperton was at his best on Generalife to win the Listed Civic Stakes for Darley Australia at Rosehill on Saturday with Sheikh Mohammed's trainer John O'Shea giving the young rider the seal of approval.
"Sam has to be given special mention. He is going places," O'Shea said.
"It's not by chance that we put him on in a non-claiming race.
"We are putting him on because we have a lot of confidence in him and he will be a part of the team going forward.
"He gives them every possible chance and has a big future."
Sent out the $6 second elect, Generalife was midfield rounding the turn and asserted his authority in the home straight to hold off $4.40 favourite Bennetta by 2-1/4 lengths.
He's Your Man ($6) made ground from back in the pack to finish another length third.
It was Generalife's second win for O'Shea who took over the reins at Darley from Peter Snowden in early May.
"The team has done a great job with this horse," O'Shea said.
"It has taken time for me to get to know him and all the other horses.
"It is a big team effort."
Clipperton won last season's junior title in Sydney and is leading the pack this time around.
"It's great to be given opportunities especially with Darley in races like this," he said.
"I'm very appreciative and I hope it can continue.
"This horse relaxed beautifully today and always travelled well.
"He should get plenty of confidence out of that and there could be Group races in his future."
Clipperton could not make it a double on Party Dress in the following race with the mare eighth over 1100m.
Party Dress was the final runner for Wendy Walter who relinquished her interim training licence granted after the death last month of her husband Guy.
The race was won by Casual Choice who is trained by Joe Pride who will take over the Walter stable block at Warwick Farm and many of the horses.
