Re-think on Aerobar for Magic Millions

Tuesday 23 December 2014, 4:59pm

Gerald Ryan has had a change of heart about running Aerobar in the Magic Millions Guineas and the filly will now be given her chance.

After her win in the $100,000 lead-up race at Wyong last week, Ryan said he did not think she was ready to step up from 1200 to the 1400 metres at the Gold Coast.

The lure of the $1 million Guineas prize money has persuaded him otherwise.

"If we are going to try her over 1400 metres why not do it in a million dollar race," Ryan said.

"Two of her owners come from up there and they would like to see her run there.

"She was strong to the line at Wyong so we will give her a go."

Aerobar will be accompanied to Queensland by Perignon who runs in the 2YO Plate at Canterbury on Saturday to cement a place in the $2 million Classic at the Gold Coast.

The filly was well supported before her debut in the Wyong Magic Millions and, after dawdling out of the stalls and settling last, she gathered momentum in the straight to finish fourth, 2-1/2 lengths from the winner Zoutenant.

"She is almost in the Magic Millions and a top three place will ensure she gets in," Ryan said.

"There have been some scratchings at Canterbury so she comes in three places from barrier 15 which helps."

Ryan will rely on Brenton Avdulla to get the filly going early in the race.

"She is her own worst enemy," he said.

"She doesn't have any early gate speed which is unusual because she is by Snitzel and most of them just jump and run."

Perignon is an $18 chance for the summer's richest race with long-time favourite Wicked Intent at $3.80 ahead of his lead-up in Saturday's B J McLachlan Stakes at the Gold Coast.
