Fireworks bang-on for Randwick

Monday 12 January 2015, 4:13pm

Gerald Ryan came away from the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast without a race win but with some exciting prospects from the yearling sale.

Perignon finished a solid fifth in Saturday's $2 million 2YO Classic won by Le Chef while Aerobar was sixth in the $1 million Guineas.

The trainer will now give Perignon a short break and get her ready the Sires' Produce and Champagne Stakes in April while looking to some of the other stable youngsters as Golden Slipper prospects.

Fireworks will be having her second start when she runs in the 2YO Plate (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday and her performance will be a guide to her autumn program.

"She ran well to run second in her first race and may have struck a good one there," Ryan said.

"She has held her form and we will see what she can do.

"I have some others coming through that might be better but she is fit and well."

Like Perignon, Fireworks is by Snitzel who Ryan trained to win the Group One Oakleigh Plate.

He also trained the stallion's first Group One winner, Snitzerland, and came away with several more of his progeny from the Gold Coast sale.

Fireworks was a half length to the Gai Waterhouse-trained New Wings when she made her debut on December 29 over 1000 metres at Gosford.

Tommy Berry will ride when Fireworks with Brenton Avdulla travelling to Melbourne to ride the Ryan-trained Red Excitement and Qfighter at Flemington.

There are 19 entries for Saturday's juvenile race including five from Chris Waller stable.

The Kris Lees-trained Moment Of Music and Unsinkable from the Gary Nickson stable are the only two to have won races, notching victories at Wyong and Newcastle respectively earlier this month.

There were 11 nominations for the open 1600m race headed by stakes winners Monton and Honorius, rated 105 and 102 respectively.
