A winning double for trainer Sam Kavanagh at Rosehill has helped ease the pain of losing stable star Midsummer Sun.
English import Tales Of Grimm made a winning Australian debut to prompt talk of the Doncaster Mile after Centre Pivot won earlier in the day.
Midsummer Sun, the winner of two Gosford Cups, had to be put down last week after injuring himself in a barrier trial.
Many of his owners are part of the group which races Tales Of Grimm who won the 1200m benchmark 87 by a long head from Tahitian Black.
"The owners have supported me since I moved to Sydney and it's great to get this win for them," Kavanagh said.
"We will nominate this horse for the Doncaster.
"To do what he did over six furlongs on a firm track shows he has adapted well."
Tales Of Grimm was ridden by Kerrin McEvoy who spent several years in Europe.
"I rode him in his latest trial on a waterlogged track and got to know him," McEvoy said.
"It can be hard for the Europeans to muster speed quickly because it's the opposite to how they race over there.
"He shows a lot of promise."
Kavanagh, who formerly trained in Adelaide, will have an increased presence at Rosehill with additional boxes.
"I was given approval this week and we now have 40 boxes," he said.
"They are not filled yet but hopefully they soon will be."
