Blue Diamond contender Of The Brave will be under 24-hour security from Friday afternoon at disqualified trainer Mark Riley's Mornington stable.
Riley gained a stay of proceedings at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal on Tuesday night pending an appeal against a three-year ban.
Racing authorities disqualified him on Monday after finding him guilty of a bicarb offence relating to another horse in his care.
The stay allows Riley to saddle up Of The Brave in Saturday's $1 million Blue Diamond but stewards will place the horse under watch from 4pm on Friday.
The other runners in the Group One race will have security guards from Saturday morning.
Racing Victoria stewards had opposed Riley's application for a stay of proceedings.
Chief steward Terry Bailey said he felt it was the right move for the security to start at Riley's stable 24 hours before Saturday's race.
"Mr Riley has been found guilty of a serious drug charge and in all the circumstances we believe it's appropriate," Bailey said.
Of The Brave is a $10 Blue Diamond chance.
