While he doesn't have a Group One runner at Randwick, trainer Gerald Ryan is looking forward to re-starting the career of a horse he believes can make it to that grade.
An accident on the water walker three days before the Victoria Derby cost Bachman his chance to contest a Classic in the spring.
He has recovered from a leg injury and will take his first steps towards the Queensland Derby when he runs in the Egroup Security Sprint on Saturday.
"He has had a trial and came through that well and I'm looking forward to his return," Ryan said.
"The Queensland Derby is definitely where he is heading.
"He will have one or two runs in Sydney before we take him north."
Bachman is by Group One winner All American out of Ain't Seen Nothin', a daughter of 1995 Victoria Derby winner Nothin' Leica Dane.
Ryan is confident Bachman has inherited the stamina of Ain't Seen Nothin' who ran third in the 2003 Underwood Stakes (1800m) and a close fifth in the Caulfield Cup (2400m) both of which were won by the outstanding Mummify.
Ryan is also targeting the Brisbane carnival with three-year-old Rubick whose mission is the Group One BTC Cup (1200m) on May 9.
The high-profile colt finished fifth, beaten just over three lengths, in Saturday's Group Two Arrowfield Stud Stakes won by Delectation.
"He has come through the race as good as gold so we will aim him at the BTC Cup at weight-for-age," Ryan said.
Rubick is already a Group Two weight-for-age winner having taken out the Schillaci Stakes in the spring.
His three wins have come over 1000 and 1100 metres but Ryan has no doubts he can be extended to 1200 and further.
By Encosta De Lago, Rubick is out of Sliding Cube, a three-quarter sister to Redoute's Choice.
