A fifth Melbourne jockeys' premiership is in the sights of Craig Williams after a winning double at Caulfield took him to the lead in the title.
Williams brought up his double on Saturday in the Listed Anniversary Vase on Amorino, a horse he has partnered to three wins from as many rides this campaign.
He had earlier won on Tooleybuc Kid but had to settle for second on Trust In A Gust and third on Gregers in the Bel Esprit Stakes.
Williams started the day equal with Damien Oliver on 39 wins with Dwayne Dunn one back.
Oliver was in Sydney on Saturday while a winning double to Dunn had him level with Williams until Amorino's victory.
"It's a very competitive year, and it just shows the quality of riders we've got," Williams said.
Williams has decided against another riding stint in Japan to give himself shot at a premiership.
"I want to be with my family for the next two months, and because I am where I am in the premiership now I thought it was the perfect opportunity to stay home," Williams said.
"I've done it for the last five years (ridden in Japan)."
Williams won four-straight Melbourne premierships from 2005/06, sharing the 2008/09 title with Oliver.
Amorino ($13) defeated the fast-finishing favourite Under The Louvre ($2.50) by a neck with three-quarters of a length to Marianne in third.
Nick Hall was suspended for 12 meetings for careless riding on Under The Louvre and said he would consider an appeal.
