Flashy Sports Edition debuts for Joe Pride

Friday 20 November 2015, 12:29pm

Joe Pride is reserving judgment on the racetrack ability Sports Edition, but if looks count for anything the horse is already a winner for his new trainer.

"When you see him live he's just got a real presence," Pride said.

"He's the worst-kept secret at Warwick Farm. He's got three big, white paint spots under his belly and three big white socks."

Sports Edition started his career with Gai Waterhouse and won a Listed race in Brisbane at his second start.

He has been off the scene for almost 18 months but Pride has seen positive signs in his two barrier trials for the stable.

"He's super. I've been really happy with his trials, he's won them both," Pride said.

"It's never easy first-up after a long break but I expect him to race well."

The four-year-old is owned by Gooree Stud which also races Pride's Group One Emirates Stakes placegetter Rock Sturdy.

He is a $5 second pick for Saturday's Chris Waller Racing Farewells Jim Cassidy Handicap at Rosehill behind first-up winner Rule The River from the Anthony Cummings stable.
