The Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra stable will be looking to add to its recent run of success on metropolitan tracks with four horses at Flemington on Saturday.
The training partnership has produced six winners at the past five city meetings including doubles at their last two visits to Sandown.
They open their day on Saturday with Not A Happy Camper in the Lola And Trish's Handicap followed by Hetuka Zarsho in the Lanec Handicap after scratching the horse from Moonee Valley on Friday night.
The pair will have two representatives in the Western Health Foundation Handicap, Hard Stride and Durendal, and Zahra hopes they will perform well enough to press on to richer races over the holiday period.
He said both horses could contest the Christmas Stakes at Caulfield on Boxing Day or the Standish Handicap at Flemington on New Year's day, but ideally he would like to separate the pair.
Hard Stride has struggled for form this campaign but Zahra says the gelding's demeanour around the stable since his last-start fifth at Ballarat suggests the horse is nearing his best.
"The other day he had as good a blow as he's had since he's come back which suggests he put in," Zahra said.
"He's bucking and carrying on at home which are signs that he normally does when he's going well.
"Previous to that he wasn't doing that and just moping around, but the run at Ballarat with the blinkers on switched him on a bit."
Hard Stride will be ridden by Katelyn Mallyon who guided the gelding to his most recent victory over Saturday's course and distance in February.
Mallyon is one win shy of outriding her claim and is apprenticed to the Ellerton-Zahra stable.
Zahra said Durendal had progressed nicely since scoring at Ballarat on November 21.
"He's had a nice little freshen up in between and he just keeps putting it together," Zahra said.
