Zatopaz has all but earned himself another shot at stakes company with a tough staying performance at Warwick Farm.
A last-start fifth in the Christmas Cup, Zatopaz proved a class above his midweek rivals to score a comfortable 1-1/4 length win over San Telmo in the the McGrath Estate Agents Hcp (2400m).
Trainer Bjorn Baker said he would consider running the four-year-old in the Listed tattersalls Club Cup on New Year's day.
"He's improving all the time," Baker said.
"He's been a work in progress and it's been as much of a learning curve for me as anyone.
"There is a stakes race on New Year's day that we might consider."
Zatopaz is by champion sire Zabeel out of bonny producer Prized Gem and is a half brother to 2008 Australian Derby winner Nom Du Jeu, a horse significant in the career of Baker.
"Nom Du Jeu was the first horse I took to Australia and he won the Australian Derby at 40-1," Baker said.
"It's the first time I ever had cash in my wallet."
The odds weren't quite as generous on Wednesday for Zatopaz who started $6 equal favourite.
