Promising mare Abracadash has made a successful return from a career-threatening injury to win at Doomben at her first start for more than a year.
The now four-year-old led all the way to win Wednesday's 1200m-maiden after recovering from a fractured splint bone and a subsequent infection which kept her off the scene for 14 months.
"It was a long road back but we always had a high opinion of her," trainer Kelso Wood said.
"If she had got beaten today I was going to run her in the Magic Millions maiden in a fortnight."
"Now we might look for another race that day for her."
Apprentice Tiffani Brooker joined an elite group of jockeys to score a win at her first ride a city track.
Brooker led all of the way on Spirit Of The Dawn ($2.70) to win the Pages Event Equipment Hire Hcp (1050m).
The 22-year-old has been riding for two years and is apprenticed to Spirit of The Dawn's trainer Stuart Kendrick.
She had ridden a metropolitan class winner at Ipswich but Wednesday was her first trip to a city track.
"It is a real thrill to ride a winner anywhere but it is special to be here at my first ride and on this horse. I don't ride him work because he can be a bit headstrong but in races he just rolls along," Brooker said.
