Trainer Desleigh Forster hopes to start a big fortnight with vastly improved mare Assertory at Doomben.
A last-start Beaudesert winner Assertory will get her chance to win her second city race in the Happy New Year From the BRC Plate (1100m) on Friday.
Forster has always believed Assertory can measure up to good company but she has disappointed on a few occasions.
"We have put a tongue tie on her and it seems to have turned her around," Forster said.
"She beat a handy field at Beaudesert at her last start and she deserves a go at Doomben.
"The only worry is she has gone up sharply in the weights. But I'll stick with Robbie Fradd to ride her because he knows her."
Assertory did her early racing in the NSW Northern Rivers before being transferred to Forster at Eagle Farm in July when she won a Doomben maiden.
It will be a busy day for Forster as her Group One-placed three-year-old I'm Belucci will work with star sprinter Buffering between races.
"I'm Belucci is heading to the Magic Millions Guineas on Saturday week. My only worry is he might not get a start," Forster said.
"At the moment he is No. 17 on the list but I am hoping he will get in.
"It would look a bit silly if a Group One placegetter in the Spring Champion Stakes didn't get a start."
Stable stalwart, veteran sprinter Adebisi, will also work between races on Friday.
"He is headed to the Magic Millions Sprint. I scratched him from the Bat Out of Hell last week because of the wide barrier," Forster said.
"The gallop should top him off nicely."
Rival trainer Liam Birchley is in two minds about whether to start two-year-old Heart Skipt A Beat at Doomben or the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.
Heart Skipt A Beat is chasing a place in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on Saturday week and is among the favourites for both the races he is entered in on Friday and Saturday.
He has run three minor placings and has $35,000 prize money but $12,000 of that is made up of bonus payments.
"They don't count bonus payments and that means he only has about $23,000 prize money," Birchley said.
"It won't be enough to get into the Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic."
"If he wins at Doomben it is worth $12,800 and I don't know if that is enough. A win at the Sunshine Coast would get him in for sure."
"But I would rather run Friday. So I will have to make up my mind as late as possible."
