Capitalist pleases in track work-out

Friday 1 January 2016, 3:21pm

Magic Millions favourite Capitalist has allayed any concerns about his health with a gallop between races at Randwick.

Trainers Peter and Paul Snowden were on hand to watch the colt work with stablemate Mooshakissa on Friday after Capitalist was withdrawn from a barrier trial earlier in the week because of a slightly elevated temperature.

Mooshakissa, who is also Magic Millions bound, led the work-out with the pair going slowly until the final 200 metres when Capitalist upped the tempo took over to nab her on the line.

"He is as good as gold," Peter Snowden said.

"My plan is to work him again Monday or Tuesday and then we will look to take them up on Wednesday.

"We didn't do a lot with him - just enough to blow the cobwebs out.

"They were only asked to do a bit the last furlong and he was really good."

"Today was about making sure he was fine and to make sure there is no temperature and to see him eat up well over the weekend."

Race jockey Blake Shinn partnered the colt with stable apprentice Winona Costin on Mooshakissa who will be ridden by Mark Zahra at the Gold Coast.

The Snowdens' third runner, Niccolance, will be ridden by James McDonald.

After Capitalist and Mooshakissa went past the winning post, the pair kept going a solid clip to the next turn.

Shinn said he couldn't pull the colt up because he only got going so late in the gallop.

"He showed to us that he's 110 per cent," he said.

"Peter wanted me to give him a nice working gallop. He did that.

"I couldn't be happier with him."

Capitalist is the $1.70 favourite for the $2 million race at the Gold Coast.
