Big future tipped for Russian Revolution

Saturday 25 June 2016, 1:25pm

Russian Revolution has earned high praise from Peter Snowden who rates him up with the stable's best two-year-olds this season.

That carries more weight than usual with Snowden and his son and training partner Paul claiming the Magic Millions-Golden Slipper double with Capitalist and two Group races with Attention.

Russian Revolution started his career a little later and made a winning debut earlier this month at a Canterbury midweek meeting.

On the back of that win he was sent out the $2.80 favourite in the 2YO Plate (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.

He made no mistakes and went to the line two lengths ahead of Morton's Fork ($5.50) with early leader Treviso ($41) holding on for third another 1-3/4 lengths away.

"He is a nice colt and he is up there with our best," Snowden said.

"We will look at some early spring races like the Run To The Rose. I think 1400 metres will pull him up but there are some good races for him."

For Rory Hutchings, the win was a welcome one from the big Randwick stable as he tries to establish himself in the senior ranks after ending his apprenticeship with Chris Waller a couple of weeks ago.

"He is a very nice two-year-old heading in the right direction," he said.

"He was a little bit slow early but at the end it was a sit-and-steer job."
