Racing Queensland has a new chief executive more than a year after Darren Condon was sacked from the role in the wake of the greyhound live-baiting scandal.

Veterinarian Dr Eliot Forbes, currently the chief executive of Tasracing, will return to his home state to take up the on August 22.

Racing Queensland is the governing body for all three racing codes - thoroughbred, harness and greyhounds.

Forbes was formerly the long-running chief veterinary officer for the world's richest race, the $10 million Dubai World Cup.

Racing Queensland chairman Steve Wilson said Forbes had a proven track record of racing industry leadership, both in Australia and abroad.

"To have a highly successful Queenslander returning home after 21 years with a passion to achieve growth in racing across all of our state is a huge positive," Wilson said.

Forbes said he was excited by the opportunity to make a contribution to racing in Queensland.

"After many years working in racing around the world, I am excited by the opportunity to make a contribution to racing in my home state of Queensland," he said.

"The size and scope of the industry in Queensland means it is a key contributor to the state's economy and it also plays a large part in the social fabric of many rural communities."
