Dreams A Plenty's Doomben win has shown why his connections weren't too upset when a huge offer for him to race in Hong Kong fell over.

Dreams A Plenty ($1.85) lived up to his short price when he beat Ironborn ($21) by 4-1/4 lengths with another 4-1/4 lengths to Deep Image ($3.20) in a Class 3 Plate (1350m) on Wednesday.

His race was the fifth and, as it turned out, the last on the program with the final three races called off after rain made a section of the track unsafe.

The gelding was sold to Hong Kong last year for a reported seven figure sum but the deal fell through and Dreams A Plenty remained with trainer John Zielke.

"He has always been rated a stakes horse by us and we were happy to keep him. He was injured in his only start in Melbourne in the spring but he is up to that standard," Zielke said.

"The only worry today was the heavy 10 track but he led them in the Group One J J Atkins on a heavy track so I wasn't really worried."

Zielke is now aiming Dreams A Plenty at the Listed Weetwood Handicap in Toowoomba on Saturday week.

"He will get in on the minimum and he is now trained at the track. We also have the Queensland Guineas in mind for him." Zielke said.

Trainer Pat Duff turned the clock back 40 years when Venetian Beauty ($14) won the Maiden Plate (1200m).

Venetian Beauty was ridden by Luke Dittman, the son of champion jockey Len "Mick" Dittman who was apprenticed to Duff in the early 1970s.

"I reckon it is 40 years since L Dittman has ridden a winner for P Duff. But I had lunch with Mick recently and Luke was there and I promised to give Luke some rides, so it has worked out well," Duff said.

Continuing showers during the day meant the track chopped up in sections and chairman of stewards Daniel Aurisch said the surface between the 800m and 600m was badly affected, prompting the panel to abandon the last three races.

"It would have been unsafe to race on it for the rest of the day," he said.

Doomben is scheduled to have its fourth meeting in 10 days on Saturday but that meeting is in no danger at this stage.
