Trainer Bryan Guy is hoping a drop in weight can help overcome his smart galloper Platinum State's aversion to Doomben.
Platinum State will be having his ninth start at Doomben on Saturday in the Novotel Brisbane Airport Handicap (1350m).
So far he has run just three minor placings at Doomben, the latest over 1200m at his most recent start behind Melbourne-bound You Did What on August 30.
Platinum State's 12 starts at Eagle Farm have yielded five wins and a close second.
"There is no doubt he is a better horse at Eagle Farm but it is shut for at least eight months so we have to make other plans," Guy said.
"I thought his last-start third at Doomben was a good run and he probably should have finished second. He is right down in the weights on Saturday.
"He will be odds but I would be disappointed if he didn't run a good race."
Platinum State was entered for the Ballina Cup on Friday but Guy has elected to run at Doomben.
In-form apprentice Priscilla Schmidt, who won on the Guy-trained Buon Auspicio on Wednesday, has taken the ride on Platinum State and will reduce his weight to 52.5kg.
