Track conditions on Saturday will determine whether Count Of Limonade lines up in the Zipping Classic at Sandown.
Trainer Mick Price isn't keen to run the import on firm ground and says the track needs to be at least in the dead range for the five-year-old to take his place in the Group Two contest.
Two starts ago Count Of Limonade won the Moe Cup on slow ground before running fifth in the Bendigo Cup on a good track.
Showers are forecast in Melbourne on Friday afternoon and again on Saturday morning.
"He ran well in the Bendigo Cup but those firmer tracks are not his go," Price said.
Formerly prepared in Ireland by Aidan O'Brien, Count Of Limonade is owned by OTI Racing which will also be represented by French horse Au Revoir in the 2400m race.
Count Of Limonade was showing signs of shin soreness when he first started racing on the firmer Australian tracks earlier this year.
Price sent him to Eric Musgrove at Coronet Bay, south-east of Melbourne, where horses have use of the beach and an undulating 2000m track.
The trainer believes Count Of Limonade has benefited from the rural environment.
"He's one of those Europeans that, when we first got him, he was pulling up shin sore on these Australian tracks," Price said.
"So we've got to be very careful with him.
"If it's a dead five on Saturday he'll definitely run and will be competitive and he's done some good work down at Coronet Bay.
"I know the weights don't favour him but he's ready to get tried at the mile-and-a-half."
Meanwhile, Price is hoping three-year-old filly More Radiant can break her maiden in the Listed City Of Greater Dandenong Stakes (1400m).
More Radiant has had five career starts - all in black type races - filling a place three times.
"Whilst she's a maiden, she's Group placed a number of times and she's got some really good form around her," Price said.
"We've taken the blinkers off, the 1400 (metres) should suit her and hopefully she can break her maiden status in a Group race."
Price will also saddle up Red Bomber in the Sandown Stakes (1500m), Seenaan in the Sandown Guineas (1600m) and Jazz Song in the Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m).
