The vastly improved Grayson Square can tick another box if he races well in his open-company debut at the Gold Coast.
Grayson Square will be looking for four wins on end when he takes on a top-quality field in Saturday's Super Starfish Handicap (1400m).
Trainer Brian Wakefield mapped out a plan when Grayson Square resumed two months ago and has been able to tick off each point as being successful so far.
"Firstly I wanted him to get back to winning form. Then I wanted him to be able to win a couple of races in a row," Wakefield said.
"The next step was to get him out to 1600 metres and see if he could handle it. He didn't just handle it but overcame a lot of bad luck to win.
"So now it is to the next step which is to win a race in open company with him."
Wakefield admits Grayson Square faces a stiff task against some classy opponents.
"It is a better than average field but at least we will know where we are at," he said.
"Travis Wolfgram rode him well at his past two starts but I have gone with Luke Tarrant this week to use a 1-1/2 kilogram claim."
"A few of the higher-weighted horses aren't claiming so we meet them well at the weights as we get in under the limit."
Grayson Square has been kept ticking over in the three weeks since his most recent start.
"He was out in the paddock and also spent a few days just on the dry walker. He couldn't be fitter," Wakefield.
If he races well Grayson Square will be set for the Listed Recognition Stakes (1600m) at Doomben on November 29.
Grayson Square, who is by 2004 Cox Plate winner Savabeel, cost $105,000 at the New Zealand Premier Sale and has already doubled that in prize money.
Among his opponents at the Gold Coast will be Group Two winner Sir Moments from the Steve O'Dea stable.
Sir Moments will carry 59kg equal topweight with Brave Ali.
All going well, Sir Moments will head to Sydney for the Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on December 13.
